Copenhagen-native HEDO HYDR8 is back with the second instalment of their IDENTITY SAMPLER series, exploring genre identities and various sonic personalities shaping HEDO HYDR8’s work and inspirations.

The series continues with IDENTITY SAMPLER II, a heady 2-tracker, featuring a cheeky devil-may-care remix by Miss Jay. On IDENTITY SAMPLER II, HEDO HYDR8 ventures into experimental territory on ‘Adult Sorrows’ and revisits their signature high-energy breaks on ‘Analyze, reproduce’.
‘Analyze, reproduce’ is a fierce breakbeat track, designed to tear through the fabric of any stale jungle set. The track cycles ambivalently between serene arps and a harrowing synthlead, taking sonic inspiration from oldschool IDM, while keeping a razor sharp focus on the dancefloor.
The release opener, ‘Adult Sorrows’, is a saturated emotional epic, combining impressions of noise, ambient, trance and musique concrete. The track lends itself to internal images of an akira-like dystopian metropolis, featuring sensuous female cries that could’ve been nicked from a burial track. Heavy noise, an abrasive trancelead and hi-fi racebike samples on top of a set of hauntological housechords makes ‘Adult Sorrows’ a unique and modern set opener as well as a deep and touching soundscape listen.

IDENTITY SAMPLER II is mastered by SUGAR aka. Nikolaj Jakobsen at Soundstuff Studios in Copenhagen.
The artwork is by Christian Kirch Knudsen using artificial faces generated by Bertil Ipsen and HEDO HYDR8.
